The release of Artemis is again canceled due to technical issues

NASA cancels Artemis 1 launch again, the mission with which the US special agency intends to resume exploration of our satellite, the Moon. Again, it was a technical glitch that prevented them from taking off, and it’s no joke, because unless the third time is the charm, they’ll have to delay everything for at least a few weeks.

As we have already learned, NASA was forced to cancel the launch of the Artemis mission last Monday, August 29, the scheduled departure date, due to a problem detected in one of the four SLS engines related to the cooling system of those engines, although its nature was not fully clarified.

And it happened again. It was today, Saturday 3 September, that the organization postponed the start, although in the end it could not be due to a technical problem again: fuel leak in the lower part of the rocket, which prevented the proper flow of liquid hydrogen. Total, which couldn’t be this time either.

“During refueling for the Artemis I mission, a leak occurred on the supply side of the 8-inch quick coupler while attempting to transfer fuel to the rocket. Attempts to fix it so far have not been successful,” NASA explained via its Twitter account, and after hours they continue to study the problem and try to find a solution.

The truth is that both failures are closely related because both affect the proper operation of the rocket engines and cooling system. The difference this time was that they did the tests with more care and didn’t damage any engines. We’ll have to see if they can hit the key as they’re racing against time.

You can watch the entire process in the following video.

there will be another Monday, September 5, when the third and final launch window opens in the present period a margin of scarcely an hour and a half, which, if not taken, will cause a considerable delay before it can be tried again. This is due to weather, which was expected to be a major problem for the mission, even though it wasn’t, and the fact that the Orion spacecraft needs sunlight to work.

It should be noted that Artemis 1 is an unmanned mission, so no lives are at risk; but it’s a great investment that could be seriously damaged, not to mention a lost opportunity, given that it’s NASA’s return to the moon after half a century.
