channel 24 He asked Anton Melnyk, innovation and startup specialist at the Ministry of Digital Transformation, which messengers are better to use in daily communication today. Which ones are the safest, which don’t care much about data security, and which can be downright dangerous in general.
When asked which messengers Melnyk would advise Ukrainians to use, he recommended the following practices:
signal,
What’s up,
reporter,
If you are communicating with relatives who are already at the front, at war or under occupation, make sure to use Signal, Anton Melnyk stressed.
As for the Meta messenger for the Facebook social network, its specialist recommended using it in private mode, because only then will communication via Messenger be truly encrypted.
How to protect chat in Messenger
You need to enable end-to-end chat encryption so that communication from Meta in the app is as secure as possible. How to do it, see below.
In the Messenger app, select Chats from the submenu.
Tap Edit image in the top right corner.
Click the lock icon in the upper right.
Then select the desired contact to whom a new secure chat will be created.

In the new chat, you’ll see a badge icon next to the contact’s icon and a notification below that all messages in the chat are end-to-end encrypted.
How to be with Telegram
Of course, we also asked about Telegram, one of the most popular messengers today. It is used to create and communicate communities where various information is distributed.
I would definitely not recommend communicating on Telegram, you have to force yourself not to discuss important things there. One way or another, Telegram is a Russian network with Russian founders and Russian developers. And from the very beginning of its creation, the messenger had an FSB background. Therefore, I would be very wary of him, – said Melnyk.
Discussions about Telegram’s security have been going on since its inception. Messenger has repeatedly been accused of not being completely honest about message encryption. No matter, the app has really Russian roots and you can’t rely on anything in Russian beforehand.
If you still decide to use this messenger for communication, at least enable encryption, as it is disabled there by default. All you need is to create a “New secret chat”.
