Gentle Ukrainianization: How popular apps and services have changed since the start of the war

On the contrary, many companies leaving the Russian market will expand their activities in Ukraine. Some finally added the Ukrainian language to their interface, others offered services that were not available before.

Detail

As Anton Melnyk explains, the company did not consider this necessary for many years due to the small number of users of the social network who owns iPhones.

I first mentioned this in March of last year, can you imagine? There were many different arguments, but they answered that 90% of Facebook users in Ukraine are Android users and only a few million Ukrainians on IOS. Therefore, within the framework of the Facebook SEO world, it was not in time for them. But nothing, we moved this topic, we carried it, and we did it anyway,
– says Anton Melnyk.

Previously, these features were not available due to the lack of major music companies in our market to negotiate track rights.

It was completely unreal. When I asked about this last March, I was told: “That’s great, now that’s impossible. Let’s just talk about language.”
– adds expert.

“You see what the problem is – for the music to work in the country, at least some big music companies were needed: Universal, Sony Music and others. No such top music company is registered in Ukraine. All of them were registered. In Russia.

By the way, about the letters. We wrote in March from Mykhailo Fedorov and the Ministry of Statistics urging these big music companies to leave Russia. And with our application, they left within a few weeks. But they left Russia, but did not come to us. Of course, because of the war. But many said it would open in Ukraine after the war.

That’s why the problem arose – what about the music rights? But Meta has found its own solution. In fact, all the products they offer to users are now available in Ukraine.”

  • Messenger will also be in Ukrainian.

According to Anton Melnyk, “the messenger will appear simultaneously in the Ukrainian language on IOS and Android.” Probably already in the fall.
