At the time of removal, there were 6,200 images and videos on the official PornHub account. They have posted business-safe content promoting various videos and creators.

What happened?

The exact reason for the blocking is unknown. In fact, Leila Mickelwaite, the activist who led the campaign against PornHub, posted screenshots showing the page being removed for “violating Instagram’s community guidelines”.

• Leila Mickelwaite founded the TraffickingHub movement dedicated to the following. “Shutting down Pornhub and holding its administrators accountable for facilitating, distributing and profiting from rape, child abuse, sex trafficking and criminal sexual assault”.
• Critics point to her ties to evangelical Christian groups that advocate the complete abolition of all sex work and commercial pornography.
• The activist’s website states that she previously worked for the Exodus Cry project, a Christian group seeking to “end the sex industry.”
• The Exodus Cry itself originated at the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC) in Kansas City, according to The New Republic. “God urged conservative Christians to dominate society by controlling political and cultural institutions”.

Mickelwait expressed support Meta’s decision urged other companies – Google, Amazon and Microsoft – to follow suit.
