Kaspersky GReAT Chief Security Researcher David Emm: “The first reports of alleged breaches of TikTok appeared a few days ago. Infringement Forums On the bulletin board, an unknown user posted images that are allegedly screenshots of database tables showing the TikTok breach. We believe that a large number of TikTok users could be affected if 2 billion database records were stolen, as the user claimed.

While some cybersecurity researchers claim the data breach claims are true, others confirm some similarities between user profiles in the database records shown and videos posted under those IDs, stressing that such details could be publicly available data that can be generated without infringing. . TikTok is a globally recognized social media app with over a billion monthly users, making the platform a tempting attraction for cybercriminals looking to hijack user accounts and steal sensitive data.

If the claims on the Breach Forums message board are true, this could be a serious problem for many users. If the alleged database records contain the user’s account information, cybercriminals can send spam or phishing messages to users, hack into the user’s account on TikTok, and obtain banking and personal information. Since many celebrities and bloggers use TikTok as their main source of communication with their audiences, cybercriminals can put them at risk by posting private videos, messaging and uploading videos on their behalf. The extent of the impact will depend on how the company handles passwords, which is less likely if passwords are encrypted after they have been hashed.

Kaspersky advises TikTok users who fear that their account information has been hacked to change their password. Kaspersky Password Manager allows you to check the security of all your passwords in real time. To reduce the risk of someone hacking into your account, Kaspersky also recommends implementing two-factor authentication, which is a great policy for any online account.”
