Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab exhibited its latest air defense system by performing combat shots with the MSHORAD short-range mobile air defense system. During a series of shots, the system identified, tracked and hit several targets.
Potential customers from 15 countries attended the combat shooting demonstration. A total of five successful firings of the RBS 70 NG mobile fire installation on the MARS-S330 machine were carried out at various targets, including an unmanned aerial vehicle and an aerial helicopter.
During one of the shooting scenarios, the car sight was removed and reconfigured as a portable fire installation. In addition, night shots were fired at a towed target.
“These successful shots prove that we have a fully functional mobile air defense solution. These ignitions highlight the value of being able to build everything from radar to fire installation from a single supplier, including the GBAD C2 solution. The combination of our Giraffe 1X radar and the RBS 70 NG mobile fire installation is ideal for a solution with world-class range, altitude coverage and detection capabilities.“, says Stefan Oberg, head of the Saab Missile Systems division.
MSHORAD is Saab’s answer to a new era of warfare, with new aerial threats such as drones and other advanced aerial weapons.
MSHORAD is a vehicle-integrated solution that can detect, counter and neutralize airborne threats quickly and effectively.
The system consists of a mobile radar unit based on the Giraffe 1X radar and a mobile fire unit based on the RBS 70 NG, all connected to the Saab GBAD C2.
