FIFA launches FIFA Plus: that’s all the new (and free) football streaming service brings

We are witnessing live how the flow is getting stronger in football. We’ve already seen how LaLiga Pass is starting to make its way in some countries and Movistar+ has become the most complete offer to watch matches for the next five years. Now, FIFA has announced the launch of FIFA+, its own free and ad-supported OTT focused on beautiful gameplay..

FIFA offers its new service as a digital platform where we can watch live matches from world leagues, match statistics, original content and “the most complete international football archive”. We can access it through the browser or the iOS or Android apps.

FIFA app to watch free football

The biggest football archive: through the app we will also have access to all recorded men’s and women’s World Cup matches throughout history. Over 2,000 hours of archival footage that will be made available to the public free of charge for the first time. There are currently 2,500 videos, but FIFA promises to add more over time.

FIFA PLUS

original productions: As if it were a sports Netflix, in the application we will be able to find documentaries, documentaries, talk shows and short films translated into eleven languages. FIFA said these content will include “the presence of football stars of yesterday and today from more than 40 countries”.

The launch catalog includes: ‘Ronaldinho: The Happiest Man in the World’, ‘Captains’, ‘Croatia: Defining a Nation’, ‘HD Cutz’, ‘Dani Crazy Dream’, ‘Golden Boots’, ‘Icons’ and ‘Academies’. Like the rest of the content, they allow it to grow over time.

live matches: FIFA+ is committed to broadcasting 40,000 live matches per year from 100 member associations of the six confederations. This includes men’s, women’s and youth competitions. At launch, 1,400 matches will be broadcast per month, and that number will grow over time, according to football’s governing body.

this should be noted 2022 World Cup will not be broadcast live on FIFA+. “There are no plans to have live premium rights for the World Cup on the platform today,” said Charlotte Burr, platform leader at today’s launch event, according to Variety.

This will be repeated in other scenarios where transmission rights are held by companies that use them to feed payment services. In this sense, FIFA+ takes its first steps completely free of charge (and with ads). But according to Burr, there may be a subscription fee that will open the door to other types of content in the future.
