Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky. Some older smartphone and tablet models will no longer receive updates.

When to expect iOS 16

OS for iPhone will already be available September 12. It will be installed on the new iPhone 14 right out of the box.

It implemented a lot of innovations: the lock screen has improved, new widgets have appeared, maps and the mail client have become much better. Another useful feature is the ability to delete messages after sending.

But not all iPhones will get iOS 16. The list of models to be updated is as follows:

• iPhone 8, 8 Plus, iPhone X.
• iPhone Xr, Xs, Xs Max.
• iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max.
• iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, Pro Max.
• iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, Pro Max.
• iPhone SE 2020, SE 2022.

Other operating systems

iPadOS 16 and macOS 13 will be available for download in October.

• Owners: iPad 5 and newer, iPad Pro (all editions), iPad mini 5 and newer, iPad Air 3 and newer will be able to update to iPadOS 16.
• macOS Ventura will receive: MacBook Pro 2017 and newer, MacBook Air 2018 and newer, MacBook 12 2017 and newer, iMac 2017 and newer, Mac mini 2015 and newer, Mac Pro 2019, Mac Studio.

There is no information about the release date of watchOS 9 and tvOS 16 yet. However, it is known that Apple Watch Series 4 and newer will receive the first, tvOS 16 – Apple TV 4 and newer.
