Researchers from Nanyang Technological University and Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore have developed a portable robot that will help a person maintain balance and prevent falls.
This is reported by News-Medical, Ukrinform reports.
The device will be useful for people who have problems in walking and maintaining balance.
The Mobile Robotic Stability Assist (MRBA) robot can instantly detect a person’s loss of balance thanks to built-in sensors and can “hold” the user with the help of straps attached to the hips.
MRBA’s machine learning algorithms predict the user’s equilibrium state in real time.
It is known that the human balance control system deteriorates with age due to neurological diseases and injuries, musculoskeletal system problems. This often leads to falls, especially in the elderly.
In Singapore, falls account for 40% of injury-related deaths.
As Ukrinform reports, a team of engineers from the University of Minnesota in Duluth (USA) has developed a robot designed to help people with dementia.
