Overview of the AT-1K Raybolt anti-tank missile complex

The AT-1K Raybolt ATGM is a third-generation combat system that entered service with the South Korean army.

The portable anti-tank guided missile created by LIG Nex1 is a throw-and-forget weapon thanks to its guidance system, and the AT-1K Raybolt AT-1K tandem ammunition terrorizes the dynamic protection of armored vehicles.

It has Raybolt ATGM mounted and direct fire modes and is positioned as a competitor to the American FGM-148 Javelin system or the Israeli Spike-MR ATGM due to its characteristics.

Much attention was paid to the development of a promising ATGM, since anti-tank guns in service were ineffective in destroying North Korean tanks with dynamic armor due to penetration problems and effective firing range. The designers of LIG Nex1 (missile) and Hanwha Defense (launcher) were faced with the task of creating modern, powerful and reliable weapons, which, moreover, would have high export competitiveness.

In 2017, the product received quality certification after state tests for the defense procurement program. In the same year, the Korean army received samples of this weapon, and in 2022 the ATGM became the main complex in the army and navy of the republic.

Tactical and technical characteristics of the AT-1K Raybolt ATGM:

  • weight – 20 kg;
  • damage radius – 2.5 – 3 km;
  • penetration capacity – 900 mm;
  • service, person – 2 or 1 (when installed in a vehicle).

Features of ATGM Raybolt:

  • ATGM can fire from inside the building. The rocket uses smokeless fuel, the cruise engine works after the rocket exits the barrel;
  • observation and launch unit (OLU) has a thermal sight;
  • It can be carried or attached to a vehicle by two people in the form of a rocket and an OLU backpack. In the South Korean army, the Raycolt KLTV car from Kia Motors or the K808 White Tiger from Hyundai Rotem carries two missiles loaded into the launcher and four additional missiles in the fuselage.
