Airbus aims to expand its investment in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) through air taxi services in japan, in the Kansai area. The company is preparing to launch the CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL, an aircraft capable of carrying up to three people.
CityAirbus is an eVTOL model capable of vertical landing and takeoff. The project will be developed in partnership with the Hiratagakuen helicopter company. Airbus has received approval from Osaka Prefecture to map, test flight routes, and establish operational and safety systems. In a press release Airbus says it will organize a demonstration flight by the end of the year..
CityAirbus NextGen is prototype seating three passengers and a pilot. According to the company, Hiratagakuen will use the H135 helicopter to test advanced navigation routes as well as communications technology for the safe operation of air taxis. Recently it turned out that the aircraft is not yet ready for operation and is at the testing stage.
In addition to drone delivery systems, several companies are betting on air taxis as part of the urban mobility of the future. With the development of eVTOL aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically, new opportunities are opening up for the movement of people in large cities.
The device will be funded by a crowdfunding campaign in China.
Brazilian company Embraer is also betting on the service and has announced several agreements using technologies developed by Eve Holding, the manufacturer of eVTOL aircraft. Azul also entered into a US$1 billion partnership to purchase Lilium Jet.
While many projects are taking their first steps, companies are investing in air mobility solutions. In addition to passenger transportation, air taxis can create a new urban network that easily and quickly connects city centers, hospitals, airports and tourist attractions.
The Airbus A321 takes off late and accelerates at 1200 km/h to arrive an hour early.
Strong winds helped the plane achieve high ground speeds, but that doesn’t mean it broke the sound barrier.
