Six months before the full-scale military invasion on February 24, Russia began carrying out large-scale cyberattacks on Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform correspondent, this was announced by Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation – Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov during the annual conference “Yalta European Strategy”.

“Cyber warfare started long before the full-scale invasion. It actually started about half a year ago,” he said.

According to Fedorov, six months before February 24, large-scale cyber attacks by Russian FSB hacker groups began. These were multi-vector attacks with the aim of causing maximum damage to Ukrainian infrastructure and revealing how information systems in Ukraine work and how they are protected.

“Actually, somewhere in October-November, the strongest attacks began, which we learned to work with and built a system of protection,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Fedorov noted that Ukraine has managed to protect itself from this and more cyber-attacks, thanks to the creation of a special team in the State Special Communications Service, which develops various attack scenarios and protection against them.

As Ukrinform reported, on July 28, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law authorizing the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine (Derzhspetsvyazo) to create and implement state policy in the field of active measures against aggression in cyberspace.
