Experts from the University of Maryland presented a sensor that moves through clothing that they plan to use to measure physical parameters and exercise. The results of the study are published in the arXiv.org repository.

Existing similar devices – smartwatches or fitness trackers – can only be fixed on a specific part of the body. However, the optimal location may change during different activities. For example, the sensor chamber around the neck can be used for a microphone so you don’t have to put your hand to your mouth.

New technology makes it possible to eliminate such compromises. Thanks to the soft rail made of silicone elastomer placed on the clothes, the robot can move to the desired part of the body during various exercises. The technology is connected in such a way that it does not restrict the user’s movements at all. Every five centimeters on the rail are neodymium magnets that allow the job to control movement using a Hall sensor.

The device has two main purposes: to measure biological indicators and also as output technology, such as status lines of the amount of water consumed daily.
