Three things you need to enjoy cloud gaming

Cloud gaming has become a very popular option, and understandably so, because of this service we can enjoy next generation games on computers that do not even meet their minimum requirements.

It’s not magic, it’s possible because the game actually runs on the serverand this will send the streaming signal to our computer using the client that must have been installed before. Communication between the server and our team takes place via our internet connection.

All this means that we don’t have to meet the requirements of the game, but with those from the client that we need to install. Our internet connection must also be at the minimum recommended by the service provider, otherwise we could have problems.

What do I need to play in the cloud?

We already gave you some keys in the introduction, but now let’s get into the review three most important points so that you have no doubts on this subject. However, if you have any outstanding questions after reading, you can leave them in the comments and we will help you solve them.

First point: acceptable internet connection

It is not necessary that you have a broadband internet connection capable of reaching heart attack speeds, but it is necessary that it reaches an acceptable level. For example, if you want to use GeForce Now, you must have at least an Internet connection 15 Mbps for playback in 720p at 60 FPS. However, it is ideal to have a faster connection so that everything goes smoothly.

In case you use a higher mode, such as the one that allows you to enjoy 4K resolution and 60 FPS, it is essential that our connection reaches at least 40Mbps. The requirements of other cloud gaming service providers are similar, so we can say based on this information from 50 Mbps we would have a sufficient minimum play with all guarantees because we would exceed the minimum levels and have enough margin.

As we can see, cloud gaming does not require an ultra-fast connection, but it is essential that we exceed the specified minimums, otherwise we will have problems with image quality and performance, and the experience will not be good.

Second point: reduced latency

Latency is the delay that occurs in two-way communication between the server and our computer. This is important because all the actions we take in the game have to get to the server, and it will have to return the “consequences” of those actions to us later. If there is a high latency, this communication will be delayed and we will have what is popularly known as “lag”: our actions will not take effect until late in the gameand the experience will be terribly bad.

For all these reasons, cloud gaming is more demanding on latency than internet connection speed, and we have to be very careful in this regard, because if we don’t maintain acceptable values, we won’t play well. The minimum may vary from service to service, but is generally ideal to maintain latency always under 80 milliseconds. When we exceed 100 milliseconds, a small delay in actions starts to be observed, which can be acceptable, but not pleasant.

Third point: cable connection or Wi-Fi 5

play in the cloud Ideally, you should have a solid internet connection.. There is an explanation for this, which is that these types of connections tend to be more stable and have lower latency because they are not subject to classic wireless problems such as power loss due to distance and the effects of interference and obstacles in range and stability.

However, this does not mean that you absolutely need to use a cable to play in the cloud. With Wi-Fi 5 connection, we can enjoy a good experience also if we stay within acceptable values in terms of distance and signal quality.
