It recently started operating in Spain Runtime, the new completely free video-on-demand platform where you can find movies and series in the style of Plex TV and the like.

It is not that there is a lack of free entertainment alternatives based on the VOD model, but just in case, there is one more that looks bad, although it has the same, but like the rest of the options in its category: the available catalog is reduced (about a thousand titles), old and not updated very often. Of course, the trade off is that it’s free, so if you’re not too picky, it can do it for you.

Be careful, picky with quotes, and you’ll find it in Runtime a little bit of everything, quality content too, just very visible. Once you enter the site, you will see titles like A story from the Bronx, 3:10 train, Mercenaries, Road, SPEECH, howls, eXistenZ, shout 4, Machinist, A short cut…almost everything is movies, yes.

The series is the least, including some that you can already find on other free platforms like RTVE Play, such as Ana and 7, Curro Jimenezor weird things like Day of the Triffids or the lousy Conan series they made years ago, as well as the occasional documentary… Let’s just say that the background of the films is the most attractive, albeit tasteful, colors.

And then there are the live channels, thematic channels that constantly broadcast movies, series or documentaries (Thematic means action channel, comedy, crime, romance, classic…).

As for the support and technical features of the Runtime, the quality of the content will depend a lot on when. So, such a movie A story from the Bronx (1995) you’ll have it in 1080p, while the crappy Conan series will have you content with seeing it in 4:3. yes indeed everything is dubbed into Spanish and without the option to select the original version with subtitles.

On the other hand, Runtime has a web app (which you can use without having to register, although it is necessary to open an account if you want to be able to add content to a list or continue playing where you left off), a mobile app for Android and iOS, applications for systems and devices such as Amazon FireTV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku or for smart TVs of many brands.

Needless to say, Runtime doesn’t provide anything particularly relevant with the free options available today, let alone if you subscribe to a paid service. But if you don’t want to spend a penny, it never hurts to splurge on this type alternatives… paid for by advertising, it should be added; although they are a luxury compared to traditional television.
