Overview of the Bushmaster armored personnel carrier

The 4×4 wheeled armored personnel carrier has a hooded layout with the engine in front, the crew cabin behind and a single volume landing compartment. The welded body is made of steel armor plates that protect against 5.56 and 7.62 mm caliber bullets. Access to the interior is through a door in the stern armor plate of the hull.

There are five hatches on the roof. A turret was placed in front of the front hatch to accommodate 7.62 mm or large-caliber 12.7 mm machine guns. It is also possible to install remote-controlled modules with a machine gun or 40 mm automatic grenade launcher instead of the turret.

The Bushmaster armored personnel carrier ensures the survival of the crew and troops when detonated by both standard mines and improvised explosive devices. Therefore, the armor protection of the base reaches the greatest thickness in the places of the fuel tanks and is V-shaped. By the way, according to the developers, the armored car can withstand an explosion of up to 9.5 kg in TNT equivalent.

The crew of the Bushmaster armored personnel carrier consists of two people (driver and commander), the car can carry up to eight soldiers, fully equipped and with food supplies. Crew members and paratroopers are placed in chairs whose design is close to the design of helicopter crew chairs. The interior of the cabin is designed so that each paratrooper’s personal belongings and weapons are located directly next to his seat.

Inside the Bushmaster armored personnel carrier, only the necessary goods and equipment of the paratroopers and crew members are carried. Overhead storage compartments are provided on the sides of the boat to accommodate the main supplies. The crew cabin has a solid windscreen and two windows on the hull sides. On the sides of the fighting compartment three windows with battlements are made for firing from personal weapons, in the rear door there is another window of armored glass.

In the front part of the Bushmaster armored hull, a 6-cylinder air-cooled Caterpillar diesel engine with a volume of 7.2 liters and a capacity of 300 hp is mounted. with turbocharger. It is connected to the Allison MD-3070 RT automatic transmission, which has seven forward and one reverse gears. The engine and transmission are structurally made as part of a single block that can be easily replaced in the field.

The capabilities of the engine are sufficient to accelerate the armored car to a maximum speed of 100 km/h. At the same time, the range of the highway reaches 800 km. For its part, the presence of independent suspension, all-wheel drive and high clearance (470 mm) provides the Bushmaster armored personnel carrier with high permeability on various terrains.

The wheel suspension is independent of spring springs. The steering wheel is equipped with a hydraulic booster, the car is also equipped with a central pressure control system in the pneumatics of the wheels. In the stern of the hull, places are provided for the transport of two spare tires.
