Teachers will be able to take advantage of the first waste awareness training in Turkey for free by joining the I Take Care of My Garbage Education Portal, and will be able to implement the training in their classrooms through the prepared materials.
In collaboration with DP World Yarımca, Take Care of Your Garbage Foundation and Kocaeli University Faculty of Education, the I Take Care of My Garbage Project, which aims to increase recycling and environmental awareness among children, has been opened to the use of all trainers in all over Turkey with the Education Portal. In the prepared education portal, there are trainer training for primary school teachers, educational materials to be applied in the classroom and peer training for those who want to raise awareness and disseminate the waste problem.
I Own My Garbage Education Portal provides private school teachers with the I Own My Garbage training, which was developed in collaboration with DP World Yarımca and Take Care of Your Garbage Foundation and with the contributions of academics from Kocaeli University Faculty of Education. Public school teachers can access the same content through the Ministry of National Education’s Teacher Information Network.
Rich content to help private primary school teachers is on the portal
In the pilot phase of the education prepared for the third grade of primary school, thanks to the teachers, about 800 teachers and 15 thousand students were reached in the trainer courses that were held face-to-face and online with the teachers throughout Kocaeli. In April 2022, it was considered appropriate to add education to the Teacher Information Network (ÖBA) under the protocol signed with the Ministry of National Education, Directorate-General for Teacher Education and Development. The education, which in this way will reach the third grade teachers of public primary schools all over Turkey, is offered to the 3rd grade teachers in private primary schools through the education portal I Own My Garbage.
The content of the portal, which consists of 12 activities based on observation and experience, consists of texts, videos explaining all activities in detail, materials and videos for use in the trainings to be implemented. To give private school teachers access to this content, it is enough to fill out the form on the site and join the system. Teachers who have completed the trainer training can deliver their training in their classrooms using the materials available on the portal.
Anyone can own their trash can
I Take Care of My Garbage Education Portal also includes a “peer education” prepared for citizens who want to know more about the waste and waste problem in the world and in Turkey and to share what they have learned with the people around them. to. In this context, under the title “For everyone”, the portal contains instructive and informative videos and presentations. Membership is not required to use this section of the portal for the public.

The solution is possible with the contribution of all of us
Emrah Bilge, Managing Director of the Take Your Garbage Foundation, pointing out that the world’s only producer of waste is human, said: “To stop this, it is very important for everyone to adopt sustainable consumption habits and control the production of waste, separate the recyclable materials and send them to the right place. Children are the consumers and decision-makers of the future. For this reason, we attach great importance to having this awareness and culture. On the other hand, we adults must also change their current habits and leave a cleaner world to children.
