“The government wants to build more offshore wind farms than previously planned,” the report says.
By 2050, wind farms in the North Sea are expected to produce 70 gigawatts of electricity and are planned to reach 50 gigawatts by 2040.
Today, the government is already working to achieve about 21 gigawatts by 2030, which is about 75% of the country’s current electricity consumption.
In addition, the government has plans to produce hydrogen in the North Sea.
Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium have signed a 135 billion euro wind energy deal. It envisages cooperation in the development of onshore wind energy and green hydrogen.
North Sea countries plan to produce at least 65 GW of electricity by 2030 and 150 GW by 2050. The North Sea countries have declared their intention to become “Europe’s Green Power Plant” in a joint statement.
