ZUZANA 2 155 mm self-propelled artillery unit is a self-propelled autonomous artillery installation with automatic ammunition loading, capable of effective direct and indirect fire.

It is distinguished by a long firing range, significant impact of ammunition on the target, high accuracy of fire, high rate of fire, quick readiness for firing and high maneuverability. Its advantages include the protection of the crew from the effects of weapons of mass destruction and the effects of the large amount of ammunition carried.

Electronic equipment, diagnostics and automation of loading and firing operations make this weapon one of the most advanced weapon systems in the world.

The primary mode of fire is fire from closed positions using automatic control, reconnaissance and fire control systems with the possibility of using one mode of fire with multiple simultaneous impact projectiles (MRSI).

The ZUZANA 2 self-propelled howitzer can:

  • neutralize and destroy tactical reserves and the nearest operational echelons;
  • neutralize and destroy enemy tactical equipment and artillery;
  • neutralize and destroy the enemy’s manpower and fire systems;
  • destroying and neutralizing enemy command centers, radio communications facilities and the enemy’s rear;
  • destroying long-term defensive structures and objects of field defense by fire, both from bunkers and from closed positions;
  • shoot tanks and armored personnel carriers directly on target.

The 155 mm ZUZANA 2 SpGH consists of a chassis and a gun superstructure. The chassis is based on the four-axle chassis of the TATRA car with a simple wheel assembly. To facilitate the transition over soft terrain, the chassis is equipped with a central tire inflation system that allows the driver to change the tire pressure while driving. The howitzer gun can overcome a ford at a depth of up to 1.2 m. The driver has a passive night vision system for driving in the dark.

The gun is fixed to the shooting mast with the gun mounts mounted on the chassis. The gun is equipped with inertial navigation equipment and an initial speed radar.

The gun superstructure consists of a barrel with an autoloader and other weapon mechanisms placed in a rotating turret. The tower can move in ±360° azimuth, fire can be made in ±60° azimuth range.

The barrel is loaded with bullets and loaded automatically with the help of an automatic loader in the full azimuth and elevation angle range. The loading machine removes shells and cartridges with charges from the conveyors and moves them to the axis of the barrel. The loading mechanism finishes the shells and places the charges in the barrel.

An autoloader is a mechanical and hydraulic system controlled by electrical controls. Fire can be carried out in bursts or single shots. The gun has an additional optical sight for manual guidance. Ammunition is stored on conveyors that can carry 40 ready-to-fire rounds and 40 gunpowder loads. Magazines on conveyors are universal for all shells and powder charges used in service.

If the autoloader fails, the weapon can be reloaded manually. Height and travel are adjusted using hydraulic drives.

The ZUZANA 2 155-mm self-propelled artillery installation is equipped with aiming equipment, both for direct fire and from closed positions. The navigation and positioning system together with the SUV (fire control system) are the main aiming systems for firing from closed positions; A thermal imaging camera system is used for direct fire. Sighting device PAZ-2001 with optical sight PP-81MN is used both for direct fire and as an emergency system from closed positions. The fire control system allows you to work with digital cards.

Between the stern turrets is a power unit that provides electrical and hydraulic energy to drive the turret units and partially the landing gear units without starting the landing gear motor.

Armored towers. The gun howitzer is equipped with an effective filtration, ventilation and air conditioning system that distributes the air to all cabins for operation on polluted terrain. Cabins protect the crew from small arms, grenade fragments and mines. Cabins also protect the crew from the pressure of gases from the barrel when firing at low altitudes.

The 155 mm ZUZANA 2 SpGH is equipped with a 0.50 inch M2HB-QCB Browning machine gun for anti-aircraft and close defense. Alternatively, you can use the 12.7 mm NSV machine gun. To protect against the armored vehicle threat, the gun is equipped with an RPG-75 PT.

The crew consists of four people, who are placed in three cabins at the time of shooting (the driver in the cockpit, the gun commander and the loading operator in the left tower cabin, the machine gunner in the right turret cabin).
