WhatsApp has added a new function: Shows your beta users the estimated time it takes to upload and access a document on Android, iOS, Web, and Desktop will be shared by the messaging service.

The new WhatsApp option lets the recipient know when an entire document will be downloaded to their device or uploaded to the platform’s servers to be sent in a chat.

This new tool arrived on WhatsApp Desktop last March and it’s rolling out to some Beta users this week on both Android (v2.22.8.11) and iOS (v22.8.0.74).

To provide such information to the user, a percentage is shown just below the document in question, and the estimated time in parentheses to the right for 100 percent completion of the operation.

WABetaInfoThe developer of this innovation underlines that it is a very useful function especially for Beta users in Argentina, which is the only country where WhatsApp has allowed document sharing up to 2 GB so far.

On March 23, the app increased the current limit of files that can be sent via WhatsApp for that country from 100MB to 2GB. It is an alternative tool that both classic WhatsApp users and the Business version can enjoy.

Click on the clip and use the “document” option to have a 2GB size limit

It should be noted that this limit of up to 2 GB is specifically for documents, but not for multimedia files. In this case, photos, videos and voice messages, the maximum allowed size is 16 MB. On most devices this equates to between 90 seconds and 3 minutes of video, but the length is very dependent on quality.

If you want to send files of this type but exceeding the 16MB limit, then this is important to know. the trick will be to send them as attachments. In addition, it does not lose video or photo resolution in this way.

In case of very large files that even exceed the 2GB limit, you can use third-party cloud services such as Google Drive or Dropbox, among others.

In this case, you will need to upload the material to the cloud and create a link to share it. In the case of Drive, you can also give other users direct access by creating an editor or reader profile. The user will receive a notification via email to enter the shared document.

Warning for a scam circulating on WhatsApp

These days, a scam has begun to circulate through the app, which attempts to steal user data under the pretext of participating in a sweepstakes for an Easter egg and other related benefits.

Fake sites to which links in messages sent via WhatsApp promise access to a free Easter egg or a gif card.. According to cybersecurity consultancy BTR Consulting, in each case users are asked to answer a survey, and the message states that the person sending the message via WhatsApp has already received the reward for building reputation.

In some cases, criminals try to confuse users with actual marketing campaigns of chocolate companies. using digital media to run campaigns known as Worldwide Hide (World Treasure Hunt), which encourages users to store a virtual Easter egg anywhere in the world and send a hint to someone who can look for the egg on the virtual world map.

When users open the link that comes with the message, they are presented with a short list of questions to be answered and then prompted to enter data. Thus, they end up on a false website requesting personal information, and in some cases, the message is automatically shared with the potential victim’s contact list to make the deception go viral.

Experts advise not to engage in inbound links with so-called promotions like this, and always verify with the supposed benefits companies whether such offers are genuine. It’s also important to keep operating systems up-to-date, enable the second authentication factor, and not use the same passwords for all accounts.
