The announcement of RAM with AMD EXPO technology raised many questions, but the most important was undoubtedly its possible compatibility with motherboards equipped with an Intel chipset. GIGABYTE wanted to shed light on this issue and openly confirmed that all motherboards equipped with the Z690 and B660 series chipset, as well as future next-gen models, it will be compatible with Intel XMP and AMD EXPO memory. The latter was one of the flagships of AMD’s new generation, the Ryzen 7000.

In case anyone is lost, I remind you that both technologies, Intel XMP and AMD EXPO, allow you to integrate overclocking profiles with modified frequencies and latency to get the most out of them and they can be activated via BIOS with a simple click. This greatly simplifies and facilitates the user experience and is also a guarantee not only that we will enjoy good performance, but also perfect stability.

Thanks to both technologies no need to manually debug memory anymore through the BIOS, something that I had to do on more than one occasion and which can certainly end in suffering, especially if our intention is to keep the latency as short as possible, because a slight reduction can end up pulling embroidery all the stability of the device and cope with a reboot or a crash.

That GIGABYTE has decided to support AMD EXPO and Intel XMP on its Z690, B660 and future next generation motherboards is excellent news for consumers as it means that these boards offer full compatibility and that we won’t have to worry about anything when buying a new memory kit. We won’t even have to worry about the fact that we didn’t choose a set that we like so much in terms of aesthetics, since it only contains AMD EXPO. At the end, this is a win-win for us, the consumers.

To take advantage of this full compatibility we will only need to update the BIOS our motherboard, without further ado. In current models, this is a very simple and completely safe process, because before starting its installation, the new BIOS that we are about to install will be checked for validity and integrity. GIGABYTE has confirmed that a new BIOS that will enable AMD EXPO and Intel XMP support will be available very soon on their official website, so we won’t have to wait long.
