NVIDIA DLSS upscaling technology is truly revolutionary thanks to the artificial intelligence and tensor cores in the RTX series of video cards; users can significantly increase the frame rate in certain video games without losing image quality. And if the first generation of DLSS worked relatively well, then the transition to the second generation really changed the situation on the market – 216 video games allowed to increase the FPS at a resolution that practically did not differ from the native one. The only problem is that third-generation DLSS will work even better, but not everyone will have access to the technology.

The problem with the latest technology is that it only works on the capabilities of GeForce RTX 40 series video cards – thanks to their hardware, the user has access to third-generation DLSS, while the flagship RTX 30 models apparently do not have enough hardware capabilities. It turns out that NVIDIA literally cut all video cards of previous generations from the new function, which should significantly increase the frame rate in the corresponding games. And gamers will definitely want this tech because it works so well and does a great job at magnifying the image.

If you believe the information presented in the NVIDIA presentation, DLSS 3 allows you to increase the frame rate in the video game up to four times compared to the standard project launch mode. So if Cyberpunk 2077 has 23 frames per second, the frequency will increase to 80+ FPS after enabling DLSS 3. While it’s probably all down to resolution and graphics settings, it’s actually a significant difference. But only thanks to DLSS 3, Cyberpunk 2077 managed to get 120 FPS in 4K, which a year ago seemed impossible at maximum graphics settings.

However, as with NVIDIA’s entire presentation, the situation is not entirely clear. During the event, Cyberpunk 2077 was shown, where the performance boost really stood out, but then the graphics with other games appeared on the official website – and there the FPS increase is actually not that disastrous. Most video games got twice the frame rate when using DLSS 3, with the list of supported projects significantly shorter than what was offered in DLSS 2. noticeable difference even after purchasing a video card at the time of its release.
