Cyber attacks on Ukraine continue

Prior to the start of the larger invasion, Russia began carrying out cyberattacks on various institutions in Ukraine. These attacks continue today. Fortunately, no serious consequences have emerged so far. All thanks to the collaboration of various services that during this time have learned to respond to dangers in cyberspace, successfully warn them, repel them and quickly deal with the consequences.

The issue of cyber security is also extremely important in peacetime. The situation becomes even more dire when the aggressor country constantly tries to harm civilians in cyberspace as well. That’s why it’s worth paying attention to personal cybersecurity. Here are some important tips from the State Intelligence Service:

  • Change all weak passwords for important accounts if you have used them before. How to do it, read our material.
  • Change passwords if you haven’t done so in a long time.
  • Install all necessary software updates on your computer and smartphone.
  • Scan your devices with an antivirus. Make sure you install it if you haven’t already.
  • Remove any hacked pirated programs you have installed before – these may contain vulnerabilities and pose a danger to your computer.
  • Delete Russian programs if you are still using them.
  • Make backup copies of important documents, files so you can restore them in case they are lost.
  • Set up two-factor authentication wherever possible.
  • Do not download files from unknown, questionable sources.
  • Note that links to phishing sites may be disguised as holiday greetings, lottery winnings, or letters from stores. Do not follow links from strangers or even friends.
  • When receiving such letters, pay special attention to the sender’s e-mail, because hackers often attack from addresses that are almost identical to the addresses of official sources and differ by only one letter.

Do not trust questionable Telegram channels or news sites that you hear for the first time. Phishing attacks are often hidden behind such messages.
