The James Webb Space Telescope took the first pictures of the planet Neptune thanks to the NIRCam camera.

This was reported by the European Space Agency (ESA), as reported by Ukrinform.

“James Webb demonstrates his skills by taking the first picture of Neptune. Not only has the telescope captured the clearest view of the rings of this strange planet in over 30 years, but its cameras have also shown the ice giant in a whole new light,” he said.

Neptune did not appear blue in the James Webb images, as the space telescope photographed in the near-infrared range at wavelengths between 0.6 and 5 microns. In fact, methane absorbs so strongly that the planet is at the telescope’s wavelengths, except where there are rather dark high-altitude clouds.

Such methane ice clouds can be seen as bright streaks and dots that reflect sunlight before being absorbed by methane gas.

The most impressive thing in this new image is the clear expressions of Neptune’s dynamic rings, some of which have never been seen before.

As Ukrinform reports, the James Webb space telescope has taken several new photos of Jupiter and Mars.
