General Electric has proposed a modification of the new XA100 three-circuit engine with adaptive cycling, which is under development as part of the Adaptive Engine Transition Program (AETP) to replace the F135 power unit of the fifth generation F-35B Lightning II. fighter. The publication recalls that the XA100 was originally developed for the F-35A Lightning II and F-35C Lightning II aircraft. The publication notes that in recent weeks General Electric has been examining the integration of a new engine into a fighter with a short takeoff and vertical landing.

The company noted the features of the XA100: adaptive loop, three contours, advanced materials and new manufacturing technologies. Compared to the F135, the new engine uses 25 percent less fuel and delivers 10 to 20 percent more thrust.
