ByteDance, the developer of TikTok, is wrong or puritanical as usual, but this is how the platform works: censorship of content is the order of the day, whether due to valid or unfounded user complaints. whether through the Chinese vein upon which the service was built and applied by its managers; but the influx of users is so great that even with them they cannot control some things.

They are particularly difficult to control fights that appear in the comments and is generally left to the responsibility of the authors of each video. But again, sometimes there are so many comments that it is very difficult for a single person to keep control of what is posted. This is where “likes” come in, highlighting people’s favorite comments; and now do the same “dislike”.

“Dislikes” are now available to all users, months after anticipating their arrival as a new way “promote kindness and safety» on the platform. What was said: Chinese puritanism and why not say it also false naivety. Because we all know how social media works these days and it’s not based on kindness, it’s the other way around. And TikTok is no exception.

They are just as common on TikTok as they are on Twitter, only the structure of the social network doesn’t notice them anymore, if they don’t disappear as a result of implicit or explicit censorship. And even “dislikes”, which can be used by everyone equally, will not change anything. In other words, it will favor the winger with the strongest participation, which, admittedly, will depend on the video in question.

Why not implement a Dislike rating for videos? Kind of the same reason YouTube lowered them and removed the counter: so they don’t bother creators who are victims of fan waves. Something that again makes little practical sense, according to the best way to depict extremes is that they are visible; but also because for YouTube you solve the problem with an extension.
