What about those pages where you can’t select text? I hate them. That is why I take countermeasures against such otherwise stupid measures of those who decide to do such things. And before some clueless person comes to tell me a story that has nothing to do with this…
No, it’s not about infringing on someone’s intellectual property, questioning someone’s design decisions, or anything like that. It’s about healing basic functionality that for some reason someone decides to cast… just to annoy. Because of course, if you can read the text, even if you can’t select it, you can overwrite it, you’ll just have to do it manually.
Not allowing page text selection on the internet is a hateful attitude that only hinders those who need it for one reason or another. For example, to make a note, an appointment or anything else. It’s like limiting links. A shame, increasingly common on many sites, that you shouldn’t have to deal with. I do not do it.
Can you imagine not being able to do that? WTF?!
Although the “tricks” used by web developers to block text selection are varied, the most common is the use of the CSS “user-select” property, something that can be quickly disabled without installing anything, but only for those with the knowledge. For this reason and for sheer convenience, installing an extension is the most affordable way to do this.
Of the several extensions that exist for it, this is the one I use Enable right-click or «enable right-click:
For Chromium and derivatives (Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi)
for firefox
For Microsoft Edge
for Opera
Currently, the extension is available for all major web browsers (remember that extensions from the Chrome Store are also compatible with Microsoft Edge and Opera, although their stores are linked if you want) and its use is not prohibited. It is limited to allowing text selection, but rather returning the function to right click and thus to the context menu.
That said, the functionality of the extension is broader and just as legitimate, but the purpose of this one necessary is what it is: to give you, if you didn’t know, a simple method restore the ability to select text on pages that block this feature. Nothing more, nothing less.
By the way: the extension has more options than it seems at first glance, but if you are only interested in the extrada theme, you install it and… when you get to a page that prevents you from completing a task, click on the extension icon in the taskbar and you are done. Additionally, if this happens to you over and over again with the same pages, you can permanently disable it for the same domain.
