The proposal is being processed in the Chamber of Deputies this week and will be finally reviewed by the committees on economic development, industry, trade and services; finance and taxation; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.

The measure will prevent companies from importing goods on behalf of individuals and thus exempt themselves from tax on purchases of up to $50 (about R$233), Frot said.
“Companies that have physical stores collect taxes by law, but some digital sites use legal permission to sell their products without paying taxes properly,” the deputy emphasized.
“Another possible fraud would be declaring goods at a lower value, not exceeding $50,” he added.
How does the import tax work?
Currently, there are only two cases where no import tax is charged. The first is established by law and concerns books, magazines and medicines. Medicines can be purchased free of charge per person for up to 10,000 US dollars (about 46,000 reais). However, an exemption is only issued if it is approved and meets the standards of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).
Another case that “evades” taxes is the area of the parcel, if its value does not exceed 50 US dollars. Despite this, the exemption is granted only if the supply is between two persons without commercial purposes. That is, the exemption is not exempt in the case of negotiations between two legal entities and, more precisely, between companies.
