Billed as a smartwatch for adventurers and enthusiasts, The Apple Watch Ultra promises to be the most durable and versatile smartwatch ever made. But how does the device work in practice? Can it withstand successive drops, bumps, scratches, and even hammer blows? This is what YouTuber TechRax tested in a video posted last Friday (23).

From unboxing, we have the Apple Watch Ultra in a case separate from the strap. Some features of the watch include Hermetically sealed 49mm titanium case.water resistant up to 100 meters deep and Military Certification MIL-STD 810H. In addition, it has IP6X dust resistance and an always-on display with a maximum brightness of up to 2000 nits for perfect readability even in bright sunlight.

The second box contains an Orange Alpine Loop bracelet. It is designed to be lightweight and strong and is made up of two seamless interlaced layers with a corrosion resistant titanium G-hook clasp.

Let the death games begin…

With Apple Watch Ultra in hand The first test done by TechRax was a single drop test.. He was curious about the performance of the new model because when testing the first Apple Watch, the device completely cracked after one fall.

The Apple Watch Ultra fared much better, even when hitting the screen directly on a concrete floor. Taking the device in hand, TechRax noticed that it works fine, with no marks or cracks on the screen.

The titanium case, on the other hand, is presented scratches and marks, mainly around the screen and on the bumps around the crown.

The second test, conducted by TechRax, involved shaking the Apple Watch Ultra inside a box full of hardware such as screws, nails, and other sharp metal pieces. According to the presenter, the idea is here simulate an external environment such as a trail or climbbecause the clock will certainly beat against the stones.

Taking the Apple Watch Ultra out of the box, he points out that bracelet gets dirty quickly (which may be a feature of this model, made of woven fabric), but it does not notice any major scratches or changes compared to the previous test.

Hammer time!

Dissatisfied, the YouTuber picks up a sledgehammer to take hard hits on the Apple Watch Ultra. He usually conducts this test with an iPhone and even notes that it is unlikely that the watch will survive such a blow.

On the first few hits, the sound of impact is frightening, as if something has broken. But the clock survives and keeps ticking. TechRax then increases the force of the blows, striking the device with real hammers – to the point that the base plate under the clock sinks.

Everything seems to be fine: there are no cracks on the screen, the box is intact and without deformations. The Youtuber is happy and starts praising the durability of the Apple Watch Ultra… But then he discovers that the clock is no longer running. He died! After that, all that remained was to finish the job, striking until the screen of the smartphone was broken and the box was broken.
