Zotac ZBOX CI342 is the latest model from one of the major minicomputer specialists and is committed to reasonable price, low power consumption, passive cooling, additional versions bare bones and the rest of the advantages of these compact computers, which are not few.
Its chassis is scaled down 147 x 147 x 33 mm and thanks to good ventilation and a passive exhaust system, it does not need annoying fans. The device comes with a 40-watt adapter and a VESA mounting kit for hanging on the wall or behind the monitor, increasing the installation possibilities, thanks to its small dimensions, it can be placed really anywhere on the table.
The Zotac ZBOX CI342 is powered by a processor Pentium-N6415 from Intel’s latest line of budget computers “Elkhart Lake.” It is a model that will not break performance records, but it is very suitable for this type of equipment. It has four cores, a TDP consumption of just 6.5W, and its integrated graphics can feed content from two 4K monitors.
The minicomputer is equipped with two DDR4-3200 SODIMM slots for storing up to 32 GB of RAM and M.2 2242/2280 slots for connecting SSDs for high-capacity storage.
Their connectivity not bad for its size, with two Gigabit Ethernet ports, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, three USB 3.1 Type-C ports, 3.5mm microphone input, 3.5mm audio output, HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.2 outputs, plus a card reader microSDXC and two removable antennas.
The Zotac ZBOX CI342 is officially compatible with Windows 11, although the manufacturer states that it also supports Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS. Really you can install any Windows or GNU/Linux distribution. Zotac sells this model in complete versions (from 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SATA SSD and pre-installed Windows 11 Pro) or in really interesting barebone variants, where the user can install his own RAM, storage and operating system of his choice.
No price was given, but it will be quite cheap, especially in the barebones version. To highlight its passive cooling, which frees us from annoying fans, and its tremendously compact size to be placed anywhere.
