In our analysis of the Ryzen 9 7900X and Ryzen 5 7600X, we had the opportunity to see all the keys to this new generation of AMD processors, as well as the accompanying platform, known as AM5. Generally speaking performance results were very positiveand the truth is that I didn’t have any problem with the motherboard or the BIOS, maybe because the motherboard I used, the GIGABYTE AORUS Master X670E, was more advanced.

However, I understand that the analysis is very extensive and that filtering so much information can be complicated even with the accompanying graphs and images that explain it much more visually. That’s why I wanted to formulate this article, in which I will share with you five things you should know about AMD Ryzen 7000, which will help you to be more clear. everything they offer and how they position themselves these new processors.

To make this article more interesting, I will also share with you some conclusions I was able to draw after performing these analyses. As always, if you have any questions after reading the article, feel free to leave them in the comments and I’ll be happy to help.

1.-Ryzen 7000 regained the performance crown

And they did it in both single thread and multi thread. The single-threaded performance improvement achieved by the Ryzen 9 7900X compared to the Core i9-12900K is 5.46% in Cinebench R23the data transferred to games translates into a small but sufficient difference that gives this generation and the Zen 4 architecture the crown of performance.

Ryzen 7000 also won over Core Gen12 in multithreading. Thanks to the improvements introduced by AMD at the level of IPC and operating frequency, the Ryzen 9 7900X, which has 12 cores and 24 threads, is able to beat the Core i9-12900K in Cinebench R23 by 1.13%. It’s a small difference, but an important one, because the other one does 16 cores and 24 threads.

If we focus on games, then Ryzen 7000 they will not achieve absolute victory in all testsin fact they lose in some titles and win in others, but they are average a little stronger than Intel’s Core Gen12.

2.-AMD has increased consumption, but it is not so terrible

Various rumors and leaks have said that consumption has skyrocketed with the Ryzen 7000, and it’s true that it has increased over the previous generation, but is not as high as the given information suggestsand in the end, AMD managed to stay below Intel’s Core Gen12.

Ryzen 5 7600X it slightly exceeds 100 watts under full load and the Ryzen 9 7900X maintains, on average, under 170 watts consumption even at 100% load. As I said, these are higher numbers than their equivalents in the Ryzen 5000 series, but still remain at very good levels against the direct competition.

Obviously, if we choose to overclock, we will get into higher consumption levels, but as we will see later, it is not worth it at all. On the other hand, too we can activate the “Eco” mode. if we are very concerned about the issue of consumption.

3.-Overclocking has practically lost all meaning

And for a very simple reason, how well does turbo mode scale in the Ryzen 7000. AMD released these processors with excellent frequency tuning and tuned the maximum so that turbo mode can reach very high levels even when the processor is working with all its cores and threads.

Overclocking can allow us to achieve 100 or 200 MHz higher frequency compared to the maximum of turbo mode with all active cores and threads, but we will increase consumption and temperatures, work and by adjusting the frequency of the processor to specific frequencies we lose performance when working with multiple cores and threads simultaneously.

I personally believe that the best for almost every user is leave them on stock frequencies with PBO per carand I find this a positive thing because it greatly simplifies the overall user experience.

4.-The temperatures they reach are very high

That was another rumor that eventually was confirmed. The Ryzen 9 7900X stays at completely safe levels when working with applications that do not use all of its cores and threads, such as games, where it averages around 72 degrees. However, when we put it to full load reaches 95 degrees and remains stable at this number.

Given that these temperatures were achieved using one 360mm AIO liquid cooling kithigh-end model, it is clear that this is a high value and that with less powerful cooling systems we could end up with problems due to excess heat.

The Ryzen 5 7600X has only 6 cores and 12 threads, which means that its working temperatures are not that high, in fact, it usually does not exceed 70 degrees when working with games, but under intensive load (100% CPU utilization ) reaches 89 degrees. This shows that we could also have problems if we are not using a quality cooling system.

5.-Ryzen 7000 does not compete with Alder Lake-S, but Raptor Lake-S

This is a very important detail that we need to be clear about, in fact I focused my Ryzen 7000 analysis on comparing them to the Ryzen 5000 for this very reason because its rival is not Core Gen12, but Core Gen13generation of processors, the launch of which is scheduled for the end of this year.

We already told you about them, we know it will maintain the division into high-performance cores and high-performance coresand that they will be configured with up to 24 cores and 32 threads. This means that Intel will surpass AMD in the maximum number of cores, albeit with nuances, since only 8 of these 24 cores will be high-performance, the remaining 16 will be high-efficiency. In contrast, the Ryzne 9 7950X has 16 high-performance cores.

It will be interesting to see who wins this “war” to become the most powerful generation of processors in the mainstream consumer market. My first impressions with the Ryzen 7000 were positive, but to be honest It’s becoming increasingly clear to me that this time Intel will take the cat to the water with Raptor Lake-Salthough the difference between the two it won’t be very big.
