Kindle Scribe: writing comes to Kindle

It seems unbelievable, but As of November 19, 2007, it will soon be 15 years, the date Amazon launched its first Kindle. Since then, we have experienced the evolution of the device, as well as the growth of the family, the launch of our own e-book store, its subscription services… the story began with a single device and now there are four, which is to add the Kindle Scribe, the first that, in addition to reading, allows us to write.

This new one The Kindle Scribe has the Paperwhite technology screen we already find in other Amazon devices, about the size 10.2 inches and a resolution of 300 dots per inchwhich makes it perfectly suited both for displaying all types of content (magazines, comics, etc.) and of course user writing, which is also displayed with warm light and front light thanks to the backlight of the screen.

For Kindle Scribe writing can be purchased with basic pencil (16GB model only) or premium model. Neither needs to load, and of course both allow typing, but the premium version also includes an “eraser” on the back and a customizable quick action button. In the case of models with capacities of 32 and 64 GB, at least for now, only the option with a premium pen is offered. In the case of the 16 gigabyte model, the price difference between one and the other is 30 euros.

As for what we can do, ie where we can write, Amazon says we can with Kindle Scribe making notes in bookssave personal notes, create notebooks, journals and lists (with templates available), view documents and take notes on them, export our notes and send them by email… Come on, with these new features, Kindle Scribe is halfway between an eReader and a tablet.

However, there are aspects that make it a unique proposition, and among them the most notable one is located on your screen. And it’s because, as I’ve already hinted, it’s based on the Paperwhite technology we’ve already seen in other Kindle models. And what do I mean by that? You must have already noticed: we’re talking about an e-ink screena technology that, thanks to its peculiarities, offers much more autonomy than the screens we usually use.

As a result, and although Amazon does not disclose the capacity of the Kindle Scribe’s battery, it does define it more than extensive autonomy in the following terms:

«The reading function lasts the battery up to 12 weeks on a single chargebased on a reading habit of half an hour a day with the wireless disconnected and the brightness set to level 13. For the writing function, the battery lasts up to 3 weeks on a single charge, based on a habit of writing for half an hour a day with the wireless turned off and the brightness set to a level 13 .Battery life may vary and may be shorter than stated depending on device usage and other factors such as content annotation.»

More interesting (and certainly much more specific) is the data on its loading speed, approx seven hours connected to the computer via USB-C cable, but this can be reduced to Less than 2.5 hours connected to the 9W USB-C power adapter.

Kindle Scribe is the best Kindle we’ve made yet, mimicking the experience of reading and writing on real paper.,” says Eric Saarnio, vice president of Amazon Devices International. “Inspired by Kindle clients who have added billions of notes and highlights to books over the years, it’s great for revising and annotating documents, managing your to-do list, or brainstorming big ideas. It also offers all the Kindle benefits users know and love, such as millions of available titles, customizable fonts, premium reading features and weeks and weeks of battery life, all with the benefit of a large screen.“.

Personally, I can’t say yet if this Kindle Scribe is the best Kindle ever, but there’s no doubt that it is yes, it is one of the most innovative in the history of Amazon eReader and, I say even more, about the general history of these devices, about a market that is not very large, but has a fairly loyal audience, and that may find this innovation that Amazon has brought to the industry very gratifying.

Kindle Scribe: Price and Availability

In other words, if you’re thinking of making it a Christmas present, don’t delay booking too much.
