Razer Edge 5G, another handheld for local and cloud gaming

Razer Edge 5G is new a handheld focused on gaming which the peripheral specialist just announced at the Mobile World Congress in Las Vegas. It was developed in partnership with Verizon and Qualcomm, and the company will provide more details on October 15 at RazerCon.

At the time, we predicted that Valve’s Steam Deck would be a great boost to revive the handheld gaming segment, which has lost its market to mobile games that allow for the enormous versatility of modern smartphones.

But there is no such thing as a specialized machine and Chinese specialists such as AYA and ONE expanded their catalog after the Valve device handhelds. However, the Razer Edge 5G that concerns us seems to be the answer to Logitech G Gaming, which the Swiss manufacturer created together with Tencent Games.

What will the Razer Edge 5G look like?

The manufacturer has not described all its features, but we know that the device will be based on the platform Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. This mobile chipset has integrated Adreno graphics capable of supporting 10-bit HDR displays and refresh rates up to 144Hz.

A previous prototype that showed off the SoC’s capabilities used a screen 6.65 inch OLED with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. That’s where the shots of this Razer Edge 5G should be heading, along with a design where we see sleek side buttons that shouldn’t be too different from the brand’s peripherals like the Kishi V2, a top-of-the-range iPhone controller.

The Qualcomm chip also supports the latest connectivity standards, Wi-Fi 6E and 5G. That’s where Verizon would come in with its infrastructure mmWave 5Gcertainly the best 5G wireless network in the United States.

And a fast, reliable, low-latency Internet connection is essential for proper access to device-supported cloud gaming services. It must be said that in addition to these, this machine will be able to play locally with access to thousands of titles on the Android platform. Qualcomm’s platform also supports virtual reality headsets, but we don’t know if the Razer console will have this capability.
