Intel Unison is another of the new products the chip giant unveiled at its “Innovation” event this week, where we also saw the official unveiling of its next-generation Raptor Lake-S desktop processors, price and availability announcements for the Arc 7A770 dedicated graphics card, and more news for the professional segment in the field of quantum and neuromorphic computing.
Intel Unison is an application that promises total connectivity and full feature sharing between Windows PC and Android or iPhone mobile phones. Intel promises the very “convergence” functions that Apple already offers for its ecosystem.
And Mac and Apple mobile users have been enjoying various connectivity features for years: AirDrop, Handoff, Universal Clipboard, and AirPlay are good examples. For Windows, Microsoft has improved the “Your Phone” app, but it hasn’t reached Apple’s level.
Intel Unison: Towards Full Convergence
Intel’s design combines several features that should make sharing features between a Windows PC and an iPhone or Android device a breeze. “providing a universal and easy-to-use experience”.
After a quick and unique configuration, users will be able to perform functions such as:
Records. The file transfer will be automatic and the PC power will be used to edit the photo or video taken from the smartphone.
calls. You’ll be able to make voice calls directly from your computer and have direct access to your entire phone contact list to keep your workflow smooth.
Courier service. In the same way, the user will be able to send and receive text messages from the computer with the comfort and ease of a keyboard and a full-sized monitor and without the need to change devices.
Notification. Mobile notifications can be received on PC in a personalized way.
These features are the bare minimum we can ask for from this type of service, and as we said, it’s in line with Apple’s “Continuity” technology. There are still features that can be added, such as inbox features, text messages, or transaction-related features that Apple enables with its Pay.
Initially, Intel Unison will be exclusive to Intel Evo-certified laptops and will debut this coming holiday season on models from Lenovo, HP and Acer. The app is expected to hit more Evo devices early next year when laptops with Raptor Lake processors become available.
A good start to achieving the intended convergence between mobile devices and Windows PCs which others such as Microsoft or Samsung have already tried with their Galaxy terminals. And you already have Apple in your ecosystem…
