Vodafone increases energy savings by determining the best software settings in its mobile network using Artificial Intelligence algorithms. For example, the company achieved energy savings of up to 9 percent in its 4.5G network.

Aiming to enable its customers to take advantage of the opportunities of the digital world at the highest level with its vision to lead the digitization of Turkey, Vodafone has introduced a new innovation in mobile infrastructure management. By fully working on commercial equipment in different regions of Turkey, improvements using artificial intelligence resulted in energy savings of up to 9 percent in the Vodafone 4.5G network. The annual energy savings of 17.7 GWh that can be achieved with these improvements is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of almost 5 thousand people and 8,250 tons of CO2 savings that can be achieved with 52 thousand trees. In this way, Vodafone has started to use the latest technologies effectively to leave a greener world to future generations.

Declare that Vodafone is moving forward rapidly with preparations for future technologies, Vodafone Turkey Executive Vice President Adem Özdemirsaid:

“As Vodafone, we use technology in the most efficient way to provide our customers with the best service in an uninterrupted and reliable way. We have experienced the successful application of artificial intelligence in energy saving in our network and started using it in our mobile infrastructure. In line with our vision as Turkey’s digital operator, we will continue to test and deploy new technologies to build a greener future while improving our existing infrastructure.”

Artificial intelligence (AI) makes it possible for machines to learn from experience, adapt to new inputs and perform human-like tasks. Using this technology, computers can be trained to perform specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns in the data.

Artificial Intelligence platforms used at Vodafone find the best cell-specific parameter configurations after collecting data over a period of time using artificial intelligence algorithms. By automatically applying these parameters to the grid, a more efficient use of energy is achieved throughout the grid.
