One of the most popular keyboard customization apps, SwiftKey is close to saying goodbye to Apple devices. Acquired by Microsoft in 2016, it has been one of the favorite keyboards for iOS and Android users, giving the ability to predict words according to each user’s writing style.
However, ZDNet reported that Microsoft will remove SwiftKey from the App Store next week. It is expected that iPhone users will no longer be able to download it from October 5th.saying goodbye to cell phones with the iOS operating system.
The option to keep the app from the Apple Store has been considered for a while, mainly due to the lack of an update to SwiftKey on the iPhone. It was last updated on devices in August 2011, having been running for over a year without a single modification for users.
The last time Microsoft released an update to the iPhone on August 11, it was supposed to add a search emoji feature. Available in almost any language, it will make it easier to find and send emoji while chatting in apps.
However, curiosity is caused by a high level of user rating of the application. This is because the App Store shows that SwiftKey has a rating of 4.7, which is considered extremely positive. This number is supported by the fact that it has almost 25,000 reviews, which is what most users like.
“Starting October 5, support for SwiftKey for iOS will end and the app will be removed from the Apple App Store. Microsoft will continue to support SwiftKey for Android, as well as the technology behind the Windows touch keyboard. Customers who have SwiftKey installed on iOS will continue to work until manually removed or until the user gets a new device,” Chris Wolfe, director of product management, told ZDNet.
Even the popularity of the keyboard has not been able to overcome the addition of a smart function to the keyboards released by Apple itself. However, it is not clear if Microsoft will stop distributing the app for this reason. The portal came to the question Microsoft cited the reason for the end of support for iOS, but the company emphasized that there was nothing more to say about this..
At least for now, Android users don’t have to worry about providing a SwiftKey for the device. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded over 1 billion times worldwide, and the company recently received support that released an update to the app on September 15th.
