Huawei spoke about its innovative work in Europe

Huawei hosted the European Innovation Day 2022 in Hungary from September 27-28. In the event that the company is organizing for the 10th time this year; digitization, green energy, biodiversity conservation and training of new talent were some of the prominent themes.

The main theme of the European Innovation Day 2022, attended by about 250 people from public representatives, industry partners, members of the press and academic institutions, was defined as “Innovation for a different Europe”. Participants of the event held in Castle Garden Bazaar, one of the historical places of Budapest, the capital of Hungary, on Huawei’s 5G experience tool; also had the chance to experience different scenarios related to the use of private 5G mobile networks in many different sectors such as logistics, ports and mining.

In his opening speech, Marco Xu, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications for Huawei in the Northern, Central and Eastern Europe region; “We believe we can lead the future of innovation by continuously investing in research and development. While the innovation process is full of uncertainties, one thing is certain on the road to the future: innovation is critical to building our sustainable future. We will continue to work with our business partners to create a smarter, greener and more sustainable Europe.”

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, in his speech; “Hungary has had significant success in competing with investments from major Chinese companies in recent years. Huawei’s R&D center in Budapest and the logistics center, one of the largest in Europe, offer our country significant advantages. Huawei’s investments in Hungary are a source of pride for us. We are delighted with the company’s confidence in the capabilities of our people and in our education system. The strategic cooperation agreement signed 10 years ago has been of great benefit to both parties and we are ready to continue this cooperation as the Hungarian government.”

The Hungarian Ministry of Technology and Industry, the Hungarian Battery Association, Planergy Solutions and Huawei decided to work together on the future of the Hungarian green energy sector. Hungarian Ministry of Technology and Industry Deputy Minister of Energy Márk Alföldy-Boruss, in his assessment; “We have made significant progress in reducing greenhouse gases. The need for digitization in the energy supply is increasing day by day. Innovative solutions must emerge in this area. We consider all these solutions in the context of the Hungarian investment planning.”

SolarAPEX entered into business partnership with Huawei Turkey in the world’s largest rooftop SPP project

SolarAPEX board member Besime Özderici said of their ongoing business partnership with Huawei: “We have leveraged technology to build a greener planet and create a better future for generations to come. Earlier this year, SolarAPEX entered into a business partnership with Huawei Turkey in the world’s largest rooftop solar project for Tosyalı Holding.The project has a total installed capacity of 140 MW and will reduce CO2 emissions by 116,525 tons per year.”

5G opens the door to innovation for a smarter Europe

Also in Europe, Huawei is involved in many innovative solutions with 5G support. Huawei and Nova teamed up with Greek startup PROBOTEK to develop innovative solutions for early detection and immediate response to fires using 5G, artificial intelligence and drone technologies. George Delaportas, Founding Partner and CEO of PROBOTEK, evaluated the project with the following words; “This pilot project; It is a joint venture aimed at solving a problem with huge social, economic and environmental impacts.”

Huawei has partnered with drone company Dronetech to develop a 5G-based smart farming solution to reduce pesticide use and increase yields in agricultural areas in Austria. In Hungary, Huawei and its partners are building Europe’s first 5G smart rail hub.

Marco Kamiya, head of the United Nations Innovation Strategies and Digitalization Division (UNIDO), in his speech at the event; “The traditional division that separates manufacturing, services and the digital economy is disappearing. International organizations and governments need to work with the private sector to support a more productive digital transformation with AI. We thank Huawei for its support of the organization Global Innovation Awards, an important initiative of UNIDO in this field.”

Developing new talents and protecting biodiversity is gaining in importance

Huawei and the Hungarian University of Public Services have signed a joint scholarship program for the company’s global project focused on education and culture in information technologies, “Seeds for the Future”. Under the Seeds for the Future scholarship program, a total of €5 million in scholarship support has been provided to approximately 1,000 students from 12 European countries over the past two years.

As part of a TECH4ALL project realized with the collaboration of Huawei, Rainforest Connection and Poland’s Bialowieza National Park, he shared his latest conservation activities with the participants. The experts involved in this project are investigating the effects of climate change on biodiversity with an artificial intelligence-assisted listening mechanism installed in forest areas.

Rector of the Hungarian University of Public Services, Dr Gergely Deli also shared another sustainability project that the university is working on with Huawei. This project supports research on water management in protected areas of the Danube basin for flood prevention using a smart trailer mounted PV solution. Dr. “This value-creating collaboration is an important example of how a corporate institution can support an academic institution and the sustainable role of modern technology in environmental protection research,” said Gergely Deli.

Innovative 5G solutions at Huawei European Supply Center

The European Supply Center (ESC), Huawei’s largest facility in this field outside of China, has been operational since 2009. With the completion of the digital transformation in the center, which is close to Hungary’s capital, Budapest, and employs a total of 2,000 people, there are also significant advancements in 5G technology. With this transformation, to support the logistics and production functions of the supply center; A number of 5G-based Industry 4.0 solutions have been launched, including autonomous vehicles and augmented reality-based automated solutions.

In the transformation process, while the efficiency of logistics and production processes has increased significantly, thanks to private 5G networks, great progress is observed in the field of business and data security. The facility has its own core network and cloud-like native edge computing system. Thanks to this system and 5G technology, the data transfer is greatly accelerated, while the latency is reduced to almost non-existent. Thanks to the driverless vehicles operating in the logistics department and connected to the server via the 5G network, the material handling process in the facility can; From arrival to storage, parts collection and transport to collection points, it is fully automated. Also at the facility; Augmented Reality (AR) technology is used for maintenance, employee training, high-precision operations and remote technical assistance.
