The owner of the font rights to Times New Roman, Arial, Verdana, Tahoma and Helvetica, the American company Monotype, has blocked Russian users from accessing its library on the site.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Vedomosti.
The Monotype site is available in Russia, but when trying to open the page with the font catalog, the user sees a message that access is denied.
“It is possible that the site owner has imposed restrictions that prevent your access to the site,” the statement said.
When using the VPN service, the page opens and the user accesses the fonts when registering on the platform.
Monotype did not respond to a request to change the rules for working with Russian users.
According to the interlocutor at the Russian IT company, on April 11 it was learned that the Monotype font library is not available to users in Russia. Presumably, access could be closed sooner. His company did not receive any official report.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Martial law was declared in Ukraine and general mobilization was declared. The country is pushing back the invaders.
After the start of the war, Russia was subjected to extensive sanctions by the world community.
A number of Western countries have imposed sanctions on Russia, and several hundred Western companies have already left its market.
