In mid-July last year, Valve confirmed a rumor (loudly, in recent days) about its Steam Deck portable console. A little over a year has passed since then, and a little over half a year since the first units started arriving to users who were the first to reserve a unit for them. The most daring indeed, as at the time there were many doubts about what exactly the Steam portable console would offer.

It is true from the beginning statements in this regard were very positive, to the extent that a few days after its official announcement we could read several official statements that with the tests carried out until then, the Steam Deck would handle the entire Steam catalog. A statement that made me wonder at the time if a portable console would be able to displace the two beasts already in said catalog at the time: Cyberpunk 2077 and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

And to this day, as we can see on Steam, we can say that we tied with Valve at one, although the match is still being played. And so it is that when viewing its files in the store, we see that Cyberpunk 2077 appears as “Playable” with this file:

While Microsoft Flight Simulator is shown as “Incompatible” after tests have been performed, although Valve is said to be working on making it compatible:

I think after seeing what was seen it made sense to consider that this statement was at least overly optimisticwhich was proven a few months later when Valve launched the Steam Deck Verified program.

But well, it’s not really news because they have little news and I don’t want to make it seem like what I’m suggesting is something negative. On the contrary, I proceed from a basis that confirms it the fact that Steam Deck is able to move Cyberpunk 2077 easily speaks very positively of both Valve’s work with its laptop and the work CD Projekt RED has done on the way to redeeming its controversial triple A. Steam Deck knew how to live up to expectations, and Cyberpunk 2077 managed to get out of the hole and come very close to it , which should have been from the beginning.

And what happens when two similar stories converge? Well, we are facing a very surprising, relevant and, in my opinion, positive fact. And this is according to the data published on the official account of the Valve laptop On Twitter, Cyberpunk 2077 is the 4th most played game (by total hours) on Steam Deck. It sits behind Vampire Survivors, Elden Ring (another example of the power this console is capable of), and Stardew Valley.

Obviously, when we talk about playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam Deck we must understand that we are not talking about using the most intensive graphics modes, but it’s not what you’d expect from a device of this type either. We are talking about a system with a seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 points, which is supported by a Zen 2 APU with 4 cores / 8 threads between 2.4 and 3.5 gigahertz, with an RDNA 2 GPU with 8 units of calculations and capable of scaling up to 1, 6 GHz.

What stands out about this story is without a doubt so much great work Valve has done with the Steam Deckwho is able to handle such a challenging title with ease and who good work from CD Projekt RED so Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty close to what it should have been in the beginning. It’s been said ad nauseam, and it’s true, that CD Projekt RED and Hello Games aren’t comparable, but we can draw a clear parallel between Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky, which also happens to be among the top ten most played titles on Steam. Deck. Redemption isn’t always possible, so it’s always a joy to witness. End? happy.
