Well-known Polish studio CD Projekt RED has confirmed that it is working on it the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, very important news that confirms that this title will become a franchise. The truth is that it was an open secret because despite its rough beginnings and somewhat bumpy launch, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 were really good. As of this writing, it has already sold more than 20 million units.

The image shared by CD Projekt RED is very clear. Cyberpunk 2077 will get the Phantom Liberty expansion soon and it will hit the market later Orion, codename for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. We still don’t have details on what to expect from the second volume, in fact it’s not even certain that it will be conceived as a continuation of what happened in the first volume, and that’s normal because the story of this is self-sufficient.

With that in mind, Orion is most likely not a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, but a completely independent sequel on a story level. However, its setup and gameplay approach should be very similar to the original. On a technical level, Orion will be an exclusive project of the new generation, which means that it should make a significant leap in all directions, and should be more polished and perfect than the original.

This is very important because at the end Cyberpunk 2077 was ultimately burdened by launching on old-gen consoles. It’s a topic I’ve already explained to you more than once, so I’m not going to repeat it all, but basically the concept of it as a cross-generational title forced the establishment of a minimum adapted to PS4 and Xbox One, and we all know what the result was and what the consequences were.

CDPR also works in a different order three new projects related to The Witcher. One of them is Project Polaris, which will be the sequel to The Witcher 3 and which will be the start of a new trilogy, as confirmed by the Polish studio. Cons Project Canis Majoris will be a new project set in the Witcher universe and will arrive as an open world RPG. Finally, we have Project Sirius, which will be an entirely new project focused on both the campaign and multiplayer modes.
