Apple will release the first smartphone with a USB-C port before 2025. This was reported by The Verge.

According to journalists, despite the fact that the European Union has adopted USB-C as a universal interface for gadgets sold in the region, Apple will not be in a hurry to comply with this instruction. Experts believe that the company will adapt its accessories to the new standard before 2025.

The article states that the relevant EU law will enter into force in November 2024. That way, gadget makers will have two years to prepare for the transition. Apple is expected to have time to launch the iPhone 16 in 2024 and equip it with a Lightning connector before the law takes effect. Accordingly, the first device of the American brand with USB-C, named after the journalists, will be the iPhone 17.

“Maybe Apple could have made the change sooner, but current rules indicate it’s not technically necessary”, experts noted. According to them, Tim Cook’s company will not be in a hurry to release a smartphone with USB-C as long as possible.
