Electronic Arts is almost done with its new app to replace Origin

Electronic art has announced that its new app, which will soon replace the Origin client, is almost ready. After being in public beta for a while, the company hopes to be able to deploy it soon.

Electronic Arts announced the new application that will be connected to its gaming platform is their “fastest and lightest PC client yet”. Its design has been simplifiedit can automatically download and update games in the background, and users will be able to link their friend lists to other platforms such as Steam, Xbox and PlayStation.

Of course, Electronic Arts seems to have only finished, at least for now, the Windows version of the app, as the company told macOS users that “Origin for Mac is still where you can access your games.”

The US-based company says it has “worked hard to make the transition to the EA app as easy as possible. When you receive an invitation, all your games and content, including pre-installed games, will be ready and waiting for you in the EA app. Your local and cloud savings will carry over so you can pick up where you left off. Your friends list will also be transferredso you won’t have to worry about remembering all those player IDs.”

The bottom line is that Electronic Arts has reportedly worked to make the transition from the Origin client to its new app as smooth as possible by automating the transfer of all user data, which of course includes purchased games and games stored in your cloud.

We’ll see how the new official Electronic Arts app fares, especially seeing as the current Origin client doesn’t have a good reputation among many Steam users who see it as an unnecessary middleman that ends up causing more problems than useful features. This situation is even more pronounced if Linux is used with the Proton compatibility layer, which is covered by the Steam Deck if the operating system has not changed.
