- Ericsson Research shared its latest technologies and presented the scientific results of international research studies at the event called Academy Collaboration Day 2022.
- During the event, a signing ceremony was held with Istanbul Technical University and Sabanci University.
Ericsson celebrated university collaborations in Turkey with an event on October 6, 2022. As part of the Ericsson Research Turkey event, the latest developments in communication technology were shared with the participants and the scientific results of international research studies were presented. In addition, a signing ceremony with Istanbul Technical University and Sabanci University was held during the event.
Ericsson attracted attention with its efforts to encourage local university partnerships and brought new information about research areas such as network infrastructure and security on 6G, the mobile communication technology of the future. Presentations at the event provided information about Ericsson’s collaboration with Sabanci University in the field of cognitive and autonomous network research and the collaboration with Istanbul Technical University in the field of software security.
Ericsson Research Turkey, one of Ericsson’s 13 research centers worldwide, actively contributes to Horizon Europe, the European Union’s premier research and innovation-focused funding programme. Ericsson, the main partner of Hexa-X, the program’s flagship 6G research project, will lead the project in Turkey. With technical leadership, Ericsson is laying the groundwork for future use cases, distributed multiple inputs, multiple outputs, artificial intelligence, machine learning and the overall 6G vision and architecture.
Rector of Istanbul Technical University, Prof. Dr. Ismail Koyuncu “We are delighted to announce the innovative research and work we have done with Ericsson, which we are confident will soon help develop Turkey’s digital fabric. As ITU enters its 250th year, we continue our work and collaborations without slowing down with the motto ‘Return the Future’. We believe in the importance of partnerships in technology and innovation, recognizing that R&D and digitization, in which we have always been at the forefront, are key elements for the world of the future.”
Emphasizing that they position Sabanci University as a research university, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Leblebici He said: “As a university, the only resource we allocate to research is TL 655 million. We are currently actively carrying out 292 research projects. We are the foundation university that allocates the largest share to R&D at 32.70%. This approach is part of our growth strategy for and with the industry. As a university, we find it very important that our research projects meet the real needs of the industry. In this direction, we have conducted research projects with Ericsson on coordination of autonomous networks, which we believe will gain importance on the road to 6G. We hope that our cooperation will gradually develop into a long-term partnership, and as we move towards 6G communication technologies and Terahertz communication speeds, we can work together in both digital technologies and innovative areas such as very high frequency IC design .”
Işıl Yalçın, General Manager of Ericsson Turkey, made the following comments: “Working together with the academy and supporting the local innovation ecosystem has always been our priority since the day we started working in Turkey. We would like to reiterate our belief in the importance of collaborating with our country’s leading academic institutions. These collaborations enable Turkey not only to make a significant contribution to global research into new technologies, but also to nurture and develop the skills of the country’s qualified human resources. In addition, as the Hexa-X project continues at full speed, we will continue to work with academia to explore future connectivity solutions, especially 6G technology, with the goal of a more connected digital future.”
Ericsson opened the Ericsson Research Turkey Laboratory in Istanbul on April 1, 2018. Ericsson Research Turkey Laboratory, which has been leading the standardization of future mobile systems since its inception, develops new patentable technologies and system concepts and is intensively researching innovations that will reshape the telecommunications industry in the coming decade.
