German airline Lufthansa has banned its passengers from carrying an Apple AirTag in their luggage. This was reported by One Mile at a Time.
The gadget was banned as it is technically a microelectronic device with data transmission function. According to the rules of the International Civil Aviation Organization on the carriage of dangerous goods, such devices must be turned off when transported as baggage, as well as smartphones and laptops.
It is noted that after the launch of Apple AirTag in the spring of 2021, people began putting trackers in their luggage frequently before flights to further track the location of luggage and bags in case they get lost.
According to One Mile at a Time, Lufthansa is the first airline in the world to impose restrictions on the use of Apple AirTag. At the same time, the editors of the publication do not exclude that this precedent can be an example for other companies to follow.
