As I’ve been saying for the past few weeks, we’re in the process of updating major web browsers and Chromium-derived browsers (106), Vivaldi was one of the last to appear. And it’s here, as usual, with a nice line of news under its belt.
We are talking about Vivaldi 5.5 and like its latest version, it is a “multidisciplinary” release, in which there is room for improvements on various fronts, including optimizations, new features and various goodies, only for the PC version (Linux, Mac, Windows) of the application. The Android version is separate.
Starting with improvements that benefit all browser users, Vivaldi 5.5 Increase your performance in different sections, although where it should be most noticeable is in the address bar. Unlike other browsers, do you ever find yourself typing faster in Vivaldi than necessary for the autocomplete – addresses, bookmarks, etc. – to do its job, with the failure that comes with it? Well, this suffering is over.

Entering the productivity section, Vivaldi 5.5 brings several improvements to the set of applications integrated in the browser, be it an email reader, a calendar or an RSS feed manager: Vivaldi Mail 1.2Aside from tweaks and fixes here and there, the signup wizards have been ironed out, making it easier and faster to set up email and calendar accounts with some automation for less common services.
And speaking of tasks, this is a feature that was already included in the calendar, but its separate display fell on it, namely in the agenda view both in the full calendar and in the calendar panel. However, it is already possible view, create and organize tasks in a new panelalthough other methods can still be used.

With a few more options, this quest becomes a premium add-on. At the moment it is possible to create tasks with a due date, repeat, reminder, by location and also add a description with a URL. Likewise, tasks without a date will be placed at the top, while others will be below their respective completion date.
Finally, Vivaldi 5.5 incorporated support for Windows 11 Snap Layouts, i.e. “tile layouts”, to somehow qualify them with the new version of the operating system introduced through Microsoft Edge. Vivaldi made them his own.
