The Motorola X30 Pro will be the first smartphone to feature a 200-megapixel main sensor on the rear camera. The benefits of such a camera are well known – think about the image quality! – but little or nothing is said about its shortcomings.
Founder and Xiaomi CEOLei Jun decided to talk about it and posted a tweet claiming that some 200MP cameras take five seconds to process an image.. He also hinted that his company’s smartphone lineup won’t have the same problem.
“Some phones with a 200MP camera take about 5 seconds to load an image after pressing the shutter button. For us, this is unacceptable. The #Xiaomi12TS series shows the image much faster.”
Five seconds to process the image
Waiting five seconds for the smartphone to process one image is not practical, as the user will have to stay in place all this time so that the photo does not turn out blurry.
Besides, it doesn’t make sense. Image processing is more than just hardware dependent. The higher the resolution of a camera sensor, the more information the image it creates will contain. This data needs to be processed in order to be recognized as an “image”, and this is where the processor and software come into play. If the data received by this sensor cannot be converted to an image within a few milliseconds, this means that software is simply not ready to support such a level of hardware.
It doesn’t take long for the Xiaomi 12T to take a 200MP image.
Lei Jun believes that there will be no such restriction in the next episodes. Xiaomi 12T, although he did not explain exactly how the company will achieve this goal. In another Twitter post on September 28, the CEO states that the company has moved from focusing only on hardware to the next phase of its strategy: “deep integration of software and hardware for a better experience. Only with deep integration will Xiaomi be able to achieve new breakthroughs.” “. He also says that in order to get significant benefits from a large number of pixels, the 200-megapixel camera is part of an image processing system that uses advanced technologies to enhance creativity.
Xiaomi 12T Pro is expected to launch with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and 200MP camera.
The new top smartphone has been registered in the Google Play Console
