Japanese space agency JAXA and Mitsubishi Electric have developed a new Earth observation satellite called Daichi-3.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NHK.

The developers claim that the satellite is able to detect objects up to 80 centimeters above the Earth’s surface.

They expect the Daichi-3 to become one of the key mapping tools in disaster management.

The satellite itself is stated to have a height of 5 meters, a width of 16.5 meters and a weight of about 3 tons. The resolution of the onboard sensor is three times higher than the resolution of the first Daichi, which was decommissioned in 2011.

The Daichi-3 also sends up to 1.8 gigabytes of data per second, twice the speed of its predecessor.

JAXA plans to launch the satellite on Japan’s next-generation H3 rocket by March 2023.

A representative of Mitsubishi Electric stated that he hopes the satellite will be useful for preventing and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters.

As reported by Ukrinform, China has successfully launched its space-based observatory for the study of the Sun (ASO-S) from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome in the northwest.
