The American company “General Dynamics Land Systems” presented a prototype of the new generation Abrams X tank.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the BBC.

The tank will be presented at the Association of the United States Army (Union of the United States Army – AUSA-2022) exhibition, which will open today in Washington.

The layout of this tank will differ from the traditional ones – it will have an unmanned turret.

M1 Abrams tanks of all modifications produced since the early 1980s have four crew members: a driver-mechanic, a commander, a gunner and a loader. The unmanned turret of the new tank will not have a loader, and a device for automatic loading of the gun will be installed.

As stated in the statement, artificial intelligence technologies will be used in the tank, which will allow it to be used in a completely “unmanned” mode.

In June 2022, the German company Rheinmetall presented the prototype of the new generation tank. His name is KF51 Panther. German designers did not leave the crew in the tower, leaving its quantitative composition, but changing its qualitative composition.

Four crew members remained in the tank, but their roles changed. An automatic loader appeared, and instead of a gunner, a new specialist was introduced to the crew, who will deal with digital systems and control two aircraft, which will probably be equipped with the new “Panther”.

In the future, variants of the KF51 Panther with unmanned turrets or fully remote-controlled vehicles are also planned.
