AT Next Wednesday (12) starting at 11:00 AM Brazil time, Microsoft will host an online event talk about the latest news from the Surface line. Although the invitation to the presentation retains a certain mystique, only mentioning that these are “new devices”, rumors point to updated versions of Surface tablets and laptops, as well as the Surface Studio.
For this year’s release Microsoft decided to hold the presentation completely online, still as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there will be a parallel event called Microsoft Ignite, aimed at developers and IT professionals, which will have a limited number of seats and will be held in person.
Here’s what to expect from the event and which versions of the Microsoft Surface lineup can be upgraded.
The Surface Pro 9 is expected to be Microsoft’s main announcement during the event. According to the sources listened to, there should be options for every taste in the lineup, including even versions with ARM chips. This means that, most likely, the Pro X line will cease to exist, integrating into the main series.
The models are equipped with the new Google Tensor 2 processor, and US prices start at $599.
As a result, there will be versions equipped with 12th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 U processors, as well as others using Qualcomm SQ3 chips., a special variant of the Snapdragon 8CX Gen 3 specially built for Microsoft. Other configurations should include up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, as well as 5G connectivity for models with a mobile network tethering.
Other configurations and product design should remain largely unchanged from the current generation. This means that we will have13″ screen with 120Hz refresh ratetwo Thunderbolt 4 ports, front and rear cameras of 5 and 10 MP, respectively, as well as support for Slim Pen 2.
It’s worth noting that the device has already been spotted in the FCC certification process, indicating a very close launch, at least in the US.
Another product that should receive modest updates, The Surface Laptop 5 will also use 12th Gen Intel Core i7 and i7 processors.. The new version will have two screen sizes: 13 or 15 inches. Sources also state that there will be no variant equipped with AMD Ryzen processors, which may disappoint some.
There is a possibility that Microsoft will introduce the product in Sage Green (Green), given the color scheme of the invitation to the event, but so far there are few details.
Finally, Microsoft should update the Surface Studio line. The desktop all-in-one of the third generation allows you to upgrade the internal equipment. Unfortunately, rumors point to the use of eleventh generation Intel processors – something of an inconvenience given that we’re already on our way to the 13th gen, Raptor Lake.
In addition to the numbers already expected, Microsoft may have a few surprises in store. An example is Project Volterra, a compact desktop PC, is intended for developers who plan to create native Windows applications for ARM chips.
There is also the possibility that the company will disclose the new Surface Mouse and an unprecedented pen and lid model for the Surface line. If you’re planning on getting the news first hand, stay tuned here on Mundo Conectado!
