EA App is a new desktop client that the video game giant has created for to replace Origin and manage its video game digital distribution platform. Developed over the past two years, it has just closed its open beta phase and the manufacturer says it is ready for mass deployment.
Although Valve’s Steam reigns supreme among independent gaming platforms, major distributors/producers also have their own platforms. Electronic Arts is one of them. Access from PC is through so-called desktop clients, and EA has kept “Origin” on the market for over a decade. Now comes the necessary renovation.
EA App, faster and more complete
EA says they listened to consumer feedback and recognized the limitations of their platform “in the rapidly evolving entertainment landscape”. So they decided to create a next generation gaming platform for PC that would be the best possible place to access and manage their content.
EA App is the answer as “the fastest and lightest PC client” existing manufacturer. It launches a new streamlined design to improve search and access, and includes a new automatic game download and background update system.

EA has also focused on improving social features with other platforms. So we can create a friends list by linking an EA account with Steam, Xbox or PlayStation services and work with a unique personalized ID. It should make it easier to use cross-supported games like FIFA 23 or Apex Legends.
The distributor says he is working hard on it making the transition from Origin as smooth as possible for current customers. To do this, they will send a request to make the change, and from that moment on, all your games and content, including previously installed games, will be ready in the EA app. Your saved games (local and cloud) or friends list will be transferred to the new platform.

For new customers or those looking to switch now, the EA app is now available for compatible PCs. It must be said that at the moment it is only available for Windows operating systems. Mac users will still need to use Origin.
